What are Process & Plant Drawings?

Process and Plant drawings are required for a large range of industries, such as water and wastewater treatment, food and beverage, pharma and oil, gas and petrochem.

Part of the challenge when designing the pipework and instrumentation for a plant is avoiding clashes between the pipework, building structure and electrical components whilst ensuring future maintainability and system integrity.

Defining the routes in the design stage is very cost effective. Further, a detailed design including pipe fabrication drawings allows off-site pre-fabrication of the pipes which is considerably cheaper than welding on site.

How do we produce a Photo-realistic render?

Our input information

We would then usually produce our 3D Model based on P&ID’s supplied to us. We will work closely with the Process Engineer, Project Managers, Structural Engineer and architects to agree on pipe routes and maintenance areas. Once the principal routes have been agreed we will produce a general arrangement drawing for approval.

Our Process & Plant Piping Process

At Jensen Consulting we use the routing module within Solidworks Premium or AutoCAD Plant as our plant and process CAD software package. Our CAD Technicians have the ability to read and understand P&ID schematics and are fully versed in common practices used in commercial pipework.

Based on the approval of the GA drawings we will produce pipe drawings to assist material orders and pre-fabrication.

Further, using our steel detailing package we are able to produce a fast and accurate 3D CAD Model of the building from the civil drawings to assist in the coordination. We are also able to produce a CAD Model and fabrication drawings for any skids used.

What do we submit?

Our typical submission would include:

  1. General Assembly Drawing information and assembly
  2. Single Pipe Drawings for fabrication
  3. Materials list
  4. Valve List
  5. Updated P&ID

Plantroom drawings could be seen as Process&Plant drawings as well as Building Services Drawings from a CAD Services perspective as the tools and input information are very similar.

A plant room is a dedicated room within the building that contains all the mechanical and associated electrical equipment. These rooms can be highly congested with equipment and pipework. Coordination of these rooms in the design phase is therefore highly advisable. At Jensen Consulting we use AutoCAD MEP to produce a 3D CAD Model of the Plantroom to assure maintainability and a clash-free installation.

 

Plantroom CAD drawings

Plantroom drawings could be seen as Process&Plant drawings as well as Building Services Drawings from a CAD Services perspective as the tools and input information are very similar.
